The Venetian blind pays homage to the shade, as a subtle mechanism capable of showcasing the light. Because, all in all, light is all we have left. We architects build spaces for the light to inhabit. Is an element of climate control that provides thermal inertia to the façade. The recent curtain walls, inside which access can be made for maintenance or cleaning operations, are of that same trend, and they reactivate a certain value that architecture, because of a poorly understood technology, had discarded in the 70s. The grids on the Bank of Bilbao by Oiza, as well as Foster’s latest office buildings in Germany, are the modern inflections that Barragan in Mexico, Browner in Ibiza or Sostres in the Catalan Pyrenees utilized as the cornerstone of vernacular architecture.
In all of those projects, there are grids that fold up as a secret tribute to Gaudi, and wood planks nailed on a wall, like Aalto did in Muuratsalo. Because there is no such a thing as modern vs classic architecture, except subtle differences, or differences not worth mentioning.

Indispensable factors with regard to housing conceptions are the continuity and improvement of housing types; an awareness of environmental factors and the use of locally available materials; the constructive and collective examination of urban facades and, above all, the introduction of variety in the accommodation thanks to combined design programmes.

This book brings together an extensive collection of models and poses which serve as a primary source of inspiration to develop personal style. In the form of a collection of outfits, styles, prints and accessories, this exceptional range of articles take on their own personal shape when applied to a silhouette. Beginning with a simple 2D sketch of the garment, its subsequent use in the fashion sketch is seen to reveal some unexpected and sudden changes: the perception of weight changes when the model is standing, the volume is projected by movement and shading highlights hitherto unnoticed details. Only in a dynamic pose can we perceive the different angles visible in reality.

In this volume, the author works on a selection of apartment building projects located in the most important neighborhoods and centers of the largest cities in the world. Each building is located at the epicenter of everything that any inhabitant of a modern city may need, of which the author concentrates on explaining the architecture of each project and the solutions provided by the architects as well as the adaptability of the building in the typical urban environment of that city and country. Accompanied by descriptive texts, plenty of plans and documentary photographs in vivid colors, these projects demonstrate solely by themselves that because it is regarding apartment buildings, they shouldn’t necessarily be monotonous and repetitive structures. In fact, they can be visually and aesthetically appealing or striking while fostering a pleasing sense of community.

Considered a privilege, especially in large cities, access to outdoor space in the privacy of a home is a valued benefit that can be obtained in numerous ways. It is possible to convert terraces, balconies, gardens and courtyards, regardless of its size, into tranquil places where one surrenders to contemplation or into sources of light that extend within the home. This book assembles an ample selection of innovative projects, designed by contemporary architects and landscapers, which guide us on how to fully take advantage of an open space, while inspiring new methods to tighten the relationship between the inside and outdoors and, in this way, improve our quality of life.

Once there, it is necessary only to join and anchor the parts. Although this is still the basic principle of prefabrications, it is also an alternative that can solve the most complicated structural situations, including fold-up and fold-down offices, family growth, with ecological solutions that respect the environment where they are located.

Shoppings are sales space where architectural gestural creativity and space optimization completely confirms its representation and fame. In this case, the concept is essential and, contrary to the large commercial department stores chains that globally multiply, these sales space and interaction become unique entities. Whether the concept-store of one or various brands (multi-brands) or flagship stores of a particular brand. Sales space is a meeting point and the exchange zone that transfers the brand image and a specific commercial sale. In response to this market evolution, the architects are required to renew themselves without stopping their sales through innovative and surprising environments, with the intention of creating the event, keeping the strategic localization of a brand, the commercialization, communication, the visual identity, the architecture itself and brand and its relation to the facades, the shop windows, adaptations of the interiors, the circulations, zoning, implantation, the environment, the materials, colors and lighting, etc. We present in this book stores where the overall design is innovative, localizable and memorized.
